Finding the "right" teacher for your student and your family can be a daunting task for anyone. Here are some suggestions to help you find that "perfect match."
Finding the "right" teacher for your student and your family can be a daunting task for anyone. Here are some suggestions to help you find that "perfect match."
- What are the teacher traits you are looking for? List your most important priorities.
- Request an audition with the teacher at their music studio. Is the setting comfortable?
- Discuss your student goals with the teacher. Are they compatible with the teacher's goals?
- What are the studio policies and procedures? (i.e., cancelled or missed lessons, reschedule, summer lessons)
- Does the teacher hold recitals? If possible, attend one of the studio recitals.
- How much does the teacher charge for lessons? When is payment expected?
- How long is each lesson? Are lessons once-a-week?
- What method does the teacher prefer? What method books does the teacher use, if any?
- What happens in a regular lesson? What is covered?
- What level does the teacher prefer to teach?
- How much practicing does the teacher expect?
- How much performing does the teacher expect?
- Does the teacher participate in local, state, and/or national festivals, adjudications and/or competitions? If so, which ones?
