June 2026 Melody Lines

We're halfway through the year already! Time truly does fly! Speaking of time flying by, it's that time of year again when representatives from Washington State fly off to the NFMC conference. This year the flight is shorter (thank goodness) as the conference is being held in Scottsdale, Arizona. We're so excited that it's in the NFMC Western Region this year!

Ellen, Lorraine and myself will be leaving the second week of June for a week of business meetings, workshops, concerts, and networking. We are YOUR representatives. We are YOUR voices. If there is anything that you have questions about or have issues with, please let one or all of us know so we can address your issues and questions while at the conference. Read more

Happy Spring!! Most of us are through our Festivals and probably ready for some downtime (does that ever really happen?). I hope you all had enjoyable and successful Festivals. They are long days but so worth it to see the smiles on the faces of our students.

I hope you will take a few minutes and read through the entire newsletter. There is always some good information included, and some wonderful pictures. Melody Lines is how we get the information out to all of our members so it's worth reading and opening the links. And, as always, I would LOVE getting information and/or pictures from YOU to include in this newsletter (as well as Junior Keynotes and Music Club Magazine). It's always fun and motivating to share with each other our experiences, our knowledge, our successes, and our inspiration. "A joy that's shared is a joy made double." Read More

Happy, Happy New Year! As I sit here compiling this newsletter on a sunny winter day, I can't help but think of all the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead. Most of our students are practicing and polishing their pieces for their Federation Festival experience, and I truly hope it is an awesome experience for all involved - students, teachers, and parents. Then, before we know it, it will be end-of-the-year recital season! I love that we are all going to be immersed in some fabulous music! Read more

'Tis the Season!! I love this time of year, from the changing autumn leaves, to the smell of turkey in the oven and family gatherings, to the holiday music far and wide. It is a special time of year and I sincerely hope you will take full advantage of it, with a loving, giving, and cheerful heart. "'Til ringing, singing on its way!" Read More

Thank you to those of you who came to our WSFMC Annual Conference. We hope you found it worth your while. I heard from one teacher, "I've been doing this for 40 years and I'm still learning new things when I come to these [meetings]." Here's what we learned from our Post-Conference Survey: Read More

Happy June! We're having some great weather right now and everything looks green and lush. Because we didn't send out a May newsletter, I want to wish all of you ladies a very Happy Mother's Day! And dads? I have not forgotten you - Happy Father's Day! Remember, even though some of you wonderful men and women may not be mothers or fathers does not mean you should not be celebrated. Think about it - we are helping to raise the next generation to reach their potential and maximize their abilities as teachers and mentors. Read More

I believe most of you have completed your Junior Festivals for the year 2025. Congratulations on another successful year for our Senior Clubs that support these wonderful Junior students. What went well? Did you try anything new this year? If so, did it work? Were there things you would like to see improved upon for next year? Your feedback is important not only for our State, but at the National level, so please do not hesitate to speak up and let your voice be heard. I'm headed down to the Portland area to adjudicate a Festival down there and I'm going to take good notes! We should always be learning.

And just like that, it's Festival Season! Hopefully all music selections have been made and learned, but just in case, there is GOOD NEWS further down in this newsletter about a consolidated list - consolidating bulletin selections AND all the updates - all in one place! The project of having the entire bulletin online continues to be underway, but for right now, PIANO SOLO/ENSEMBLE and VOCAL selections are available on this consolidated list. BEST WISHES for a successful and joyful Festival experience! Read more

WOW! Just, wow! Who had ever even heard of a BOMB CYCLONE? I certainly had never heard of such a thing, but now I can say that I have survived one! I hope this December newsletter finds all of you with light, heat, hot water, and food to eat. I noticed something interesting during this trial for so many people - we all seemed to be a little more kind and patient and helpful. We didn't have to wait for an introduction to the person down the street that had a tree in their house. We just picked up a chainsaw and rake and went to work. Strangers had conversations while standing in line at the grocery story waiting to buy groceries to replace those items that had to be thrown out. Lines at gas stations found people sharing stories of their experience during this severe weather event. We paid attention and we felt empathy. Wouldn't it be nice if we could do and feel those things in our normal, everyday lives? Maybe something we can all work on in the new year.
